Guest Book Review: 'The Islamic Republic of Dewsbury'

The following book review is a guest article by Ivan Winters, formerly of the Democratic Nationalists. He outlines what looks to be a very balanced and interesting account that treats its subject matter in an objective and non-inflammatory manner. At some point therefore, I look forward to reading Lockwood’s book myself. Without further ado, here is the review:

The Islamic Republic of Dewsbury

The Islamic Republic of Dewsbury by Danny Lockwood is a very interesting book which comes to some interesting conclusions, not necessarily the conclusions that those reading this book might expect. Two things come through immediately on reading this book. The first is Danny's intimate knowledge of Dewsbury and the second is his own personality. Whenever people or places in the area are mentioned Danny is encyclopaedic in his knowledge and often offers interesting historical background. This was one of the things that immediately gave me a good opinion of this book as some of the people and places mentioned are also known to me. Two obvious examples are his references to a local pub the 'West Riding' at Dewsbury Railway Station and one of several people mentioned in the book who are known to me is Colin Auty. I have spent many a happy hour in the West Riding drinking from their interesting range of real ales. Colin is of course well known to Nationalists.

Danny makes clear from the very start of his book his personal affection for Dewsbury and his two great loves, Rugby League and Journalism (yes, I have got them right, Rugby League comes first!).

Danny started his career as a trainee reporter at the Dewsbury Reporter, moved to other parts of the country to work on other titles, returned to Dewsbury as editor-in-chief of the Reporter. Since then he has set up his own newspaper, The Free Press (Dewsbury) along with some Rugby League titles.

When dealing with Nationalists in the Dewsbury area the comment was regularly made to me by such persons as Colin Auty, David Exley etc. that 'we always get fair coverage with the Free Press'.

His book has the staccato writing style of short sentences that marks out a journalist turned author. I seem to remember a claim that journalists on 'The Sun' were trained to get their point across in 11 words or less. Presumably journalists working for 'The Sun on Sunday' have a shorter word limit as many of their readers will still be hungover from Saturday night! Some of the chapters are self-contained. Other chapters in the book have a narrative running through them and some link to events in later chapters. Two examples of this are references in early chapters to a court case described in detail in a later chapter where Shahid Malik (at the time, the Dewsbury Labour MP) sued 'The Press' for libel (the jury could not agree a verdict in this case and the two then settled out of court) and his regular references to Baroness Sayeeda Warsi who of course is from the Dewsbury area.

A couple of the early chapters give some interesting history of the area and refer to local persons who have become nationally known. There is a typo in this listing on page 66. Danny refers to such well-known figures from Dewsbury as Eddie ('oop and under') Waring and Mike Stephenson ('Stevo') both Rugby League commentators. In politics he refers to Baroness Betty Boothroyd, the first female speaker in the House of Commons and, er, 'former Labour politician Sir Marcus Fox MP'. He had better not tell the good Tories of Shipley who elected Sir Marcus as their MP for 25 years – he ended up as Chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee.

I referred above to this book coming to some interesting conclusions and the most important one that runs through this book is that everything in Dewsbury is not a case of 'White good, Asian bad' like some sort of West Yorkshire version of Animal Farm. Danny strongly makes the point that, yes, there are persons in the Asian community who are venal, criminal, or both, although of course there are also persons in the non-Asian community to which those words could be applied. In fact he names some of the venal/criminal Asians but he also names Asian community leaders including some Asian Councillors who have at various times spoken out about the fractures between the two communities, who is behind it and what should be done. And that is where the real point is 'who is behind it' that Danny identifies, as did some of those Asian leaders who spoke out, and writes about in forensic detail. Yes, there are some Asian leaders who are part of the problem, after all the Markazi Mosque and Shahid Malik MP do not get nice write ups from Danny but the biggest part of the problem identified by him is the 'professionals' in the 'race relations industry'. It is in the race relations industries interest for there to be 'race relations problems' for them to have to sort out. After all if there were no such problems then the 'professionals' would be out of work and, sure as hell, turkeys do not vote for Christmas. As co-defendants on Danny's chargesheet you can add the local Council, Kirklees MDC and the local police force, the West Riding Constabulary. Living in Bradford I am well aware of the 'institutional incompetence' of the West Riding force.

In his descriptions the vast majority of Muslims in Dewsbury are hard working people who just want to get on with their lives and he has a similar description of the non-Muslim community. As one of his examples of Asian leaders who have spoken out about the problems between the communities and identified who is behind it he mentions (page 155-156) Tory Councillors Khizar Iqbal and Imtiaz Ameen. Cllr Iqbal spoke out at a Council meeting in 2003 about the 'absurd political correctness, this fear of addressing the tough issues of the day, stopped.' Among other issues referred to in Councillor Iqbal's speech was the issue of 'second-language assistants in classrooms (they wanted English-only spoken)'. The result was a standing ovation from members of all parties. As Danny comments 'The vested interests of the race industry . . . were never going to be diverted . . . so casually' and so it has proved despite the fine rhetoric. Note in that quote he refers to 'race industry' not 'race relations . . ', his spelling sets out the agenda of that industry much more accurately than the normal spelling!

Another example Danny quotes is the case of Lee Massey (page 246 onwards). The incident in which Lee Massey was nearly killed (his wife was asked three times by doctors if they could turn off his life support machine) started with greed by Kirklees Council! The Council agreed, in return for a substantial payment from the Home Office to provide housing for Iraqi Kurds, 'refugees' from Saddam Hussein's regime. Yes, other councils in England have provided similar housing for 'refugees' but the Council must have been well aware of the very volatile racial situation in Dewsbury. The Kurds were put into Islamic areas such as Ravensthorpe and Savile Town among Muslim populations many of whom regarded Saddam as a hero and the 'Western powers' offering sanctuary to the Kurds as 'Satans'. The Kurds are described by Danny as 'dissolute, non-English speaking' (page 250-251) and soon were in conflict with the local Muslim community*. In the Lee Massey case a gang of up to 20 of them attacked a group of drinkers at the Royal Hotel Ravensthorpe. When other drinkers came out of the pub the Kurds ran away. Two of the Kurds then jumped into a car, a Honda Civic, and drove it at the drinkers hitting Lee Massey.

Why have I particularly mentioned the Lee Massey case? As Danny Lockwood goes on to write (page 255) 'Suddenly there were detectives and coppers and patrols all over Ravensthorpe . . most of the Kurds had abandoned ship . . to stay with 'cousins' and friends across the country.'. 'the community of Ravensthorpe, British white and Muslim together, suddenly found a common cause and a united front.'. 'They marched together from Ravensthorpe to Dewsbury town hall to protest against Kirklees Council's policy of housing migrants and illegals and creating such a combustible mix. For the most part they were making a decent fist of living alongside each other, the last thing they needed was another incendiary ingredient being poured into an already unstable mix.'

I have given above two examples out of the many vignettes that Danny writes about with great accuracy and detail in his book. The book is not a history of 'How those nasty Muzzies wrecked my beautiful home town'. It is more a fascinating insight by a local journalist who on occasions had serious pressure put on him to change his reporting of events, an insight into how a mixture of civic authorities, race relations 'professionals', media, police and politicians failed in their public responsibilities. He is particularly scathing and forensic in his details about how local politicians of all parties and ethnic origins used, abused and then betrayed local communities for political gain. Anyone, particularly from the 'milltowns' of the North reading this excellent book could easily cut out the various names involved in various incidents and insert the names of persons from their local community – that is how relevant this insight is!

* A factual footnote. Danny Lockwood does not get the detail of the ethnic rivalry and hatred between Kurds and other Muslim groups. He assumes simplistically that it is a matter of 'Sunni-Shia . . trump Muslim-Christian every time in the hate and violence game,' (page 251). Er, no, a bit of simple research (I used Wikipedia) shows that Iraqi Kurds are predominantly Sunni the same as the majority of the local Pakistani population. The simple fact is it has nothing to do with religious sects. Kurds are loathed by their fellow 'Muslim brothers in peace' and this applies to Turkish Kurds, Syrian Kurds and Iraqi Kurds. Iran is a special case as the majority of Iranians are Shia and the Iranian Kurds are a mixture of Shia and Sunni – I could almost feel sorry for the Iranian Ayatollahs!

The Three Disgraces: Shoot, Bomb and Hack

There is something deeply perplexing about the mentality of a certain type of Muslim; the literalist, doctrinaire, thin-skinned hair-trigger sensibility type. The type that will repeatedly insist that Islam is 'the religion of peace' and emphasise the 'compassion' of their prophet Mohammed, whilst sending themselves into paroxyms of rage whenever their beliefs or prophet are challenged or criticised, threatening to unleash violence against any insolent naysayer who should dare to slight their eggshell sense of ego in this way. Three of this type would seem to have appeared in court today: Birmingham residents Jewel Uddin, Omar Mohammed Khan and Mohammed Hasseen.

How odd it is that these three men seemingly thought that they would demonstrate how misuided the EDL is about the 'peaceful' nature of their religion through planning to unleash carnage. In what way did they think that exploding a pipebomb packed with ball bearings and nails, using sawn off shotguns, swords, machetes and knives, would win the hearts and minds of those whom they claim misrepresent them and their religion as violent? Although it comes as a relief that these apparently rabidly anti-English criminals were unable to enact their bloody plan, it was sadly predictable that the BBC chose to append the stigmatising term 'far-right' to the EDL in its radio reporting of the case. Why? Is it not time that the BBC issued some kind of apology to the public for its deliberate masking of the threat from doctrinaire Muslim fanatics in this country, and for its simultaneous and systematic demonisation of all - such as the EDL - who draw attention to this ugly reality? If the EDL ever required a concrete demonstration of the need for their movement to exist, then these three men have provided it. What impact might this alleged plot have upon turnout at the Bristol EDL demonstration on Saturday 14 July? Will it encourage more people to come onto the streets in support of the EDL, or will it deter them?

Dewsbury Bomb Plot?

Normally, the fact that a significant swathe of the resident Pakistani population evades car insurance rankles with me, given that this results in the rest of us having to pay higher premiums. However, today this selfish and anti-social practice has proven to be a blessing in disguise, for according to articles in today’s editions of the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mirror, a chance traffic check that led to a car being impounded because the driver was not insured, could have saved Dewsbury, or possibly somewhere else, from an Islamist terror attack.

The car was stopped and impounded as it was heading southbound on the M1 between Junctions 34 and 33 last Saturday near Sheffield’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre. The driver and his passenger were released, and the incriminating contents of the car are not said to have been discovered until last Monday, when someone in the pound raised the alarm regarding something suspicious in the car. Without this alarm, the improvised explosive device (IED), two firearms, ammunition and anti-British leaflets would not have been discovered. The leaflets, claims the Mirror, made specific negative references to ‘the EDL, David Cameron and the Queen.’

It was this discovery that precipitated this week’s second national police swoop to arrest Islamist militants, with three men from Sparkhill in Birmingham being seized on Tuesday, and three others from Moseley, Alum Rock and Sandwell on Wednesday. A seventh man, from Dewsbury, was arrested on Thursday. With such a gap between the seizure of the car and the arrests, the Telegraph notes that this meant that:

the suspects were at large for three days after the police had seized the vehicle, which could have allowed time to destroy or hide other weapons or incriminating evidence.

Evidently, the suspects and their accomplices will have done their best to cover their tracks during the intervening period, which could unfortunately hinder the prosecution of all involved, and potentially mask the identities of other individuals linked to the plot.

A 'notorious far-right group' and a 'wonderful family' man: a view from a distorting mirror
It is striking that the Daily Mirror chose to open its story on this foiled plot with a sentence that sought to blacken the name of the bombers’ potential target rather than the bombers themselves:

One theory is the occupants were planning to bomb a march by the notorious far-right group taking place just hours later.

Later in the article the EDL is described as ‘the notorious anti-Islamic group’. Note how this stigmatising linguistic usage contrasts to the Mirror’s attempt to normalise and humanise the Dewsbury terror suspect, whom it described as a:

dad-of-three [who had] set up a boxing club in 2009 to get youngsters off the streets. One neighbour said: “They are a wonderful family and this must be one huge mistake.”

How very interesting to see another member of this ethno-confessional ‘community’ not condemning the fact that this man was plotting terroristic violence, and instead describing his actions as “one huge mistake”. Why did the interviewee regard it as a “huge mistake”? Because he had been caught, rather than being able to see through whatever act of mass murder and maiming he was planning?

In the Telegraph the reader encounters yet more apologia for one of the terror suspects arrested in Sparkhill: 

We’ve grown up with them. They’re all lovely. They’re fine. They had a bit of a family issue with the mum and the dad separating, but there’s never been any problem with them as neighbours. They’ve never given any impression of being radicalised. They’re British Pakistanis. We’ve known them since they were babies and they’ve always seemed pretty westernised.

The Dewsbury terror suspect was part of a “wonderful family” and his alleged Sparkhill accomplice was “lovely” and “fine”. Such descriptions could seem to express a deep-rooted unwillingness on the part of Pakistani British residents to condemn Islamism and Islamist-related violence, which may ultimately rest upon the fact that they share and approve of the goals of violent Islamists: the Islamisation of Britain. Although not perhaps willing to use violence to achieve this themselves, are they particularly bothered when others do so in their name? The evidence would seem to suggest not. 

Bomb, Assassination or 'Mumbai-style attack'?
According to the Telegraph, a number of the suspects were already known to MI5, and the seizure of materials ‘raised the suspicion that a group were planning an assassination attempt or a Mumbai-style shooting atrocity that day or imminently.’ Dewsbury of course lies to the north of Sheffield, so it is odd that the men were stopped as they were travelling south on the day of the EDL march in Dewsbury if they were attempting to attack it. Perhaps they were on their way to pick up co-conspirators? Then again, their intended target may have been something else altogether.

Over at the Casuals United blog which supports the EDL and other ‘infidel’ groups across the UK, two of its contributors speculate that there is something fishy about this alleged plot. Both of the posts below take a conspiratorial stance, although each with a distinct slant:

We are supposed to believe that police pulled over a car that had no insurance and they impounded it. We are supposed to believe that there were guns and a bomb in the car, but police let the men go and didn’t bother searching the car till the next day? We all know that this would never happen. Police stop you for something like that, they always search your car. If it does turn out to be true then it validates everything we[’]ve said about this country being full of dangerous scum who need to be deported in large numbers.

This story stinks and I reckon its been manufacture[d] to cause fear and put people off going to EDL demos. What do you think? If they ever did bomb a demo Britain would turn into Northern Ireland overnight and that is a fact.

Someone[‘]s just pointed out that its funny that at the last two demos there have been no Muslims on the streets at all, no gangs of Jihadis and bad boys as there usually are, and they catch a car full of them supposedly on their way to plant a bomb at our demo. Prior warning via the Mosques? Makes you wonder.

The strange death of Muslim 'anti-fascism'
It is true that the so-called ‘anti-fascist’ counter-demo in Dewsbury attracted startlingly low numbers of supporters despite heavy backing and publicity, and there was a notable absence of local Muslims amongst the small crowd that turned out. Hitherto, the SWP-dominated ‘Unite Against Fascism’ and its various Trotskyist-led front groups have found ‘anti-fascist’ mobilisation against the EDL useful from their perspective, drawing in hot-headed young Muslims as an aggressive shock-force, designed both to intimidate and to manufacture the perception in the national media that there exists a genuine ‘fascist threat’ in this country, which is just grist to their mill of Marxist revolutionary radicalisation. However, it seems that many Muslims have cottoned on to the opportunistic nature of the Trotskyist far-left and the fact that they have been used as a catspaw to further a Marxist agenda with which they fundamentally disagree. Moreover, highly politicised groups with a specifically Muslim identity have emerged that appear to have been attracting many younger Muslims who might previously have been siphoned off into the ranks of the SWP and other leftist organisations. Thus, the absence of Muslim ‘anti-fascist’ mobilisation at the last couple of EDL demos could be more indicative of both of these trends, than of any ‘warning’ from mosques to stay away because of potential violence.

Seven years ago today 58 people died in London in the 7/7 bombings and hundreds were maimed and mentally scarred. These latest arrests, together with the London arrests on Thursday, illustrate the ever-present threat of violent Islamism within our shores. We must remain vigilant and ensure that all forms of Islamism are rooted out of our country, and its proponents removed.

The first of the videos illustrates the strength of the policing operation in Dewsbury today, whereas the second shows EDL member Tony Curtis delivering a speech outside of Dewsbury Town Hall, followed by Tracy Bird. The third shows protesters marching to their assembly point and provides a good impression of the numbers involved, which were modest and seemingly in keeping with the lower end of police estimates. For some seemingly inexplicable reason, a number of demonstrators attacked members of the police cordon. Such behaviour must be condemned, and thankfully does not appear to have led to any police casualties and only involved a minority of those in attendance. EDL Dewsbury Demo 30 June 2012

Today the EDL will be holding a demo in Dewsbury, a town, which although of a modest size, seems to generate rather a lot of bad news, albeit news that is generally ignored by the national media. Two of its publicity-hungry residents – Sayeeda Warsi and Shahid Malik – are of course well-known to the public, and will certainly be unhappy about the EDL coming to town today. Given Dewsbury’s recent history (about which I shall be writing shortly in a separate piece), it comes as no surprise that it should have attracted the attention of the EDL which outlines the grounds for its decision to demonstrate in the following manner:

On June 30th The English Defence League will stage a peaceful protest in front of Dewsbury Town Hall.

We will be protesting about the problems that Dewsbury has with both militant Islam and with Muslim integration in general, as well as the continued failure of both local and national politicians to even acknowledge that there are these problems.

This is a fair statement, yet certain local MPs and opponents of free speech have called for the demo to be prohibited and the SWP has, as is its wont, formed a local front group in the town named ‘Dewsbury Unity’ to mount a counterdemonstration. Recently elected Respect MP George Galloway and Labour MP Mike Wood penned a joint letter to West Yorkshire Police Commissioner Sir Norman Bettison asking for the EDL to be banned from protesting in Dewsbury, but thankfully this request was not granted. The statement released by the SWP-directed ‘Dewsbury Unity’ is worth quoting to highlight the absurdities of their propaganda which is swallowed wholesale and regurgitated by the mainstream media:

The EDL is a racist group dedicated to attacking Asian people and Muslims. Islamophobia – bigotry against Muslims — is as unacceptable as any other form of racism. Its aim is to divide us by making scapegoats of one community, just as the Nazis did with the Jews in the 1930s.Today the EDL threaten Muslims. Tomorrow it could be Jewish people, Hindus, Sikhs, black people, lesbians and gay men, travellers or East Europeans. There is no place for Nazis, racists or the EDL in Dewsbury’s multiracial, multicultural and multi-faith community.

ITV's Calendar News proved to be dutifully 'on-message' in this respect, and in its report on the demo this morning gave a platform to Batley and Spen MP Mike Wood to state his opposition to the EDL whilst not allowing a right of reply to the EDL. The EDL were naturally described as 'far-right', whereas the undoubted far-left nature of the opposition controlled by the SWP was completely glossed over. As with the recent BBC coverage of the forthcoming EDL demo in Bristol, the cost of the policing operation in Dewsbury was emphasised, once again failing to note that one of the primary reasons for such heavy policing is the willingness of the EDL's opponents to unleash violence. In contrast to ITV, the BBC did not even bother to run a news item on the Dewsbury demo.

Readers will perhaps ‘appreciate’ the clip of Shahid Malik at the end of this article addressing a Muslim conference in which he states how he would like to see a Muslim Prime Minister (presumably himself) in the UK one day, as well as many other Muslims in leading positions in parliament. Updates relating to the progress of today’s demonstration will be posted below as news comes in. 

EDL March in Dewsbury: 30 June 2012

'Live' Updates:
The anti-EDL Hope not Hate blog noted in a post at 11:38 that Dewsbury seemed strangely quiet for a Saturday as EDL supporters began to arrive in the town. As of 12:25, the blog was claiming that the EDL had brought in about 200 demonstrators, rather than the 450 estimated by the West Yorkshire Police. The EDL Forum on the other hand was reporting a total of 1,000 EDL supporters. The actual figure is likely to lie between the two extremes, with what seems to be a relatively low turnout perhaps being partly attributable to the unappealing prospect of getting drenched in a thunderstorm. The EDL Forum asserted that only 30 UAF counter-protesters had turned out, although estimates from their opponents have not yet been forthcoming. If true, this would be a staggeringly low number considering the amount of resources, funding and media backing behind the anti-EDL effort. 

As of 13:17, it had been reported that the police had arrested one EDL protestor. Stephen Lennon/Tommy Robinson was said not to have been able to attend today's demonstration because of "domestic issues". Presumably, this is why the speeches came to an early close, with proceedings having been wrapped up by 14:05. The original finish time had been scheduled for 15:00.

Keen to make political capital out of the EDL's visit to Dewsbury, the Leader of Kirklees Council Mehboob Khan, currently under investigation according to The Huddersfield Daily Examiner for interfering with Freedom of Information requests from the public, has stated:

The cost of the EDL rally is the best part of £500,000 to the tax payer, outrageous and the EDL should be made to pay full cost. Thank you to decent local people for their unequivocal rejection of EDL propaganda. They are not welcome in Dewsbury.

Now, what may be the cost of Khan's alleged meddling with Freedom of Information requests to the democratic integrity and accountability of Kirklees Council? This is not the first time that Khan's integrity has been called into question, as in 2007 he ran up a bill of £2,000 for personal calls made to Uzbekistan using council phones. Somehow, on that occasion he managed to rough out the storm and go on to greater political success.

We never see council leaders asking for trades unions to cover the costs of policing demos, or indeed, holding the SWP front group UAF to account for necessitating such heavy policing at EDL protests. Quite clearly, Mehboob Khan has had a bad week politically, and is looking to appeal to his people's bloc vote to keep him in office. Evidently, he is also hoping that he can curry favour with the wider electorate, but if recent allegations prove to be substantiated, this could perhaps be the beginning of the end for this Labour politician's political career.

Five arrests and a small counterdemonstration
West Yorkshire Police issued a statement after this afternoon's protest, thanking the organisers of both the EDL demo and counterdemonstration for ensuring that both were "peaceful". It confirmed that the EDL protest was approximately 450 strong, whereas only circa 50 individuals turned up to the counterdemonstration. There were also "five arrests for minor incidents" although it was not clarified who had been arrested. Clearly, given the significant resources behind the SWP-organised and trades-union endorsed counterdemonstration which was provided with positive coverage by the mass media, the EDL can be adjudged to have emerged as the 'victor' in today's contest. Although the EDL demo was not large, the weakness of the 'Dewsbury Unity' effort was just as, if not more, telling.

‘The Islamic Republic of Dewsbury’

This piece will of necessity be something of a ‘pre-review’ of Danny Lockwood’s book, for I have not yet bought a copy. Nonetheless, it struck me as worthy of comment, for a publication with such a title does speak a certain uncomfortable truth about what has happened to sections of this West Riding town. It also appears quite surprising that a journalist of some 34 years has chosen to write something that many members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) most certainly wouldn’t approve of. Perhaps Lockwood is not a member?

Given the recent history of the town and numerous attacks upon members of its non-Muslim population by Muslims, this was a book that needed to be written. After all, it is as the Daily Mail noted, one of a handful of places in Britain where Islamists have considered setting up shariah-governed statelets. In all likelihood, it is the case that such a reality pertains in the predominantly Deobandi enclave today.

Anti-White Abuse hurled at grieving Mother and Daughter

Dewsbury has borne witness to some extremely nasty anti-White race attacks in recent years, perpetrated by what the press describe as "Asian" (i.e. Muslim) assailants. Only last October, a protest was held at the local Thornhill Community Science College to draw attention to Muslim attacks on ethnic English pupils at the school. Now, a local paper has reported that last Sunday a mother and daughter visiting Dewsbury Cemetery to lay flowers on their (grand)mother’s grave were cruelly taunted by a gang of "Asians". The insults hurled at them included “white slags” and “white trash”. Both mother and daughter were understandably shaken and deeply upset, and momentarily feared that the all-male gang, perhaps containing as many as 20 members, might attack. Thankfully, the abusers withheld from launching a physical assault.

The unnamed woman had originally lived in the Westtown district of Dewsbury, but moved to Hull some twenty years ago. She and her family must be relieved that they do not today live in Dewsbury, where elements of the local mainly Deobandi Muslim population show aggressive contempt towards the English and non-Muslims generally. Thankfully, at least on this occasion, a local paper has actually acknowledged that this incident was racially motivated, and the police are paying attention to the case. Let’s hope that a real effort is put into tracking down the callous members of this gang so that they are called to account for their actions. The full story is reproduced below.

Race attack on grieving family...

A MUM and daughter paying their respects in Dewsbury Cemetery were subjected to a torrent of racist abuse by a gang of up to 20 Asians.

The 39-year-old white woman, who was with her 11-year-old daughter, was going to lay flowers at her mother’s grave.

The mum and daughter had just been dropped off at the Pilgrim Crescent entrance while the woman’s husband went to park up.

It was at this point that a gang of Asian youths gathered and  began taunting them.
They were called “white slags” and “white trash” as they laid flowers on a grave only yards away.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said her daughter was reduced to tears and added: “She was shaking. I had to hold her hand to keep her calm.
“I was frightened and thought we were about to be attacked. Thankfully they stayed by a wall near the cemetery gates.”

The woman, originally from Westtown, had travelled from Hull with her daughter and husband to visit her mother’s grave.

They had just been dropped off by her husband at around 3pm on Sunday when the incident happened.

The husband realised what was happening and drove back to pick them up.
“My husband could see that things were not all right,” said the woman. “Our daughter had drawn a picture for her gran and was putting it on the grave.

“She couldn’t understand why these youths would be so abusive and I don’t either. My mum died only recently and things are still a bit raw.

“Westtown used to be a lovely area when I lived here 20 years ago. I don’t know what’s happened to it. There’s just no respect any more.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the victim made a complaint after returning to Hull and would be interviewed by Humberside Police.

He urged people to report incidents as soon as possible and added: “We take any form of hate crime extremely seriously.

“Such incidents should be reported to us as soon as possible so that we can get to the area and deal with the offenders.”

Thornhill Protest against Muslim Hate

Congratulations are in order for Thornhill resident Shaun Maddox who last week organised a protest against Muslim attacks on ethnic English pupils at Thornhill Community Science College in Dewsbury. Reports state that between 12 and 20 people participated in a candle-lit protest in Valley Drive just outside of the school as an open evening was in progress, to draw attention to alleged Muslim attacks and to call for the issue to be addressed and dealt with. 

Maddox stated: “There is no community cohesion here at all. There seems to be a barrier between the white community and the Muslim community.” He added: “We need to address these issues and have an open public debate.” That is true enough Mr Maddox, as Muslims, particularly Deobandi ones as found in Dewsbury’s neighbouring Savile Town, look down upon you, your non-Muslim children and me as lesser beings. They see themselves as the lords of humankind. I think however, that you’d find that white Muslim converts would be just as hostile towards us as their melanin-enriched co-religionists.

The Headmaster – Mr Mitchell – rebutted the allegations of the protesters stating: “It’s a concern that people are telling untruths and making these unsubstantiated claims.” Are they “unsubstantiated” Mr Mitchell? They do, after all, seem to conform to a general pattern of young Muslim aggression that manifested itself recently in nearby Bradford with Muslim children stoning buses carrying non-Muslim pupils and the stoning of buses in Dewsbury in 2009. Other attacks perpetrated by Muslims against ethnic English residents, including the stabbing of a fourteen-year-old boy, also took place in the town that year. In another school far removed from Dewsbury in Wiltshire, a local bussing policy resulted in a Muslim gang terrorising a village school and almost killing one pupil named Henry Webster in a vicious hammer attack. To me, given this catalogue of Muslim aggression the allegations of violence directed against English pupils at Thornhill Community Science College should be properly investigated; otherwise, should this be covered up and allowed to fester, it will probably lead to wider-scale Muslim aggression as exhibited at St Bede’s last month.

Thus said the leader of the Labour Party in a recent interview. Like his brother, the Islamophiliac David, Ed believes in promoting multiculturalism red in tooth and claw and is probably tattooed with a halal kitemark: 100% dhimmi. In response to a question from the editor of The Muslim News, Ahmed J. Versi, as to what his “relationship with the Muslim community” will look like, Miliband replied:

I want to make a new start with the Muslim community. The Muslim community provides a huge vibrancy and richness to British life. It is very important that we acknowledge that and it is something that I am seeking to do that as a Leader of the Labour Party. I want to do and will do, in terms of my outreach conversations with the Muslim community. I had very interesting experiences when I was Minister for Voluntary Sector in talking to various groups that were involved in the Muslim community.

Of course, I’ve never trusted either of the Miliband brothers, or for that there political home – the Labour Party – for many years. Nonetheless, it is worth repeatedly drawing our people’s attention to the fact that Miliband the younger, just as Cameron, Clegg and Simon Hughes, is very actively courting the Muslim bloc vote. All are willing to maintain and extend Muslim special privileges in doing so, irrespective of Cameron’s cynically calculated public condemnation of state-promoted multiculturalism.

What is Miliband referring to when he refers to “a huge vibrancy and richness”? Any suggestions? A few curry houses and mosques sprouting like toxic toadstools? The abuse of language by the advocates of multiculturalism in recent years has come to stigmatise previously innocuous terms such as ‘diversity’, ‘vibrancy’ and ‘enrichment’, for they have been employed as euphemisms for ‘Balkanisation’, ‘aggressive and shrill minority assertiveness’ and ‘erosion of indigenous culture and confidence’. And what does Miliband imply when he says that Labour must “acknowledge” these putatively positive contributions? Additional legal concessions to Islam and targeted investment in ‘deprived’ Muslim colonies (‘communities’ in newspeak)?

It was sad to see the return of a Labour candidate to Barnsley Central recently, with 63% of the 37% of voters who bothered to turn out putting their cross in the Labour box. People in places such as Barnsley need to wake up to the fact that this inherited tribal party loyalty is long since past its sell-by date. Their Labour Party of old died decades ago, and embraced the principles of the New Left with its obsessive focus upon ethnic minority special privileges, jettisoning its previous concern with the bread and butter issues of the daily welfare of the working people and the protection of their jobs and standard of living.

The mainstream Labour Party view today is that Barnsley fully deserves its pariah label as a ‘racist town’, simply because it still contains an overwhelming majority of English people. They would much prefer Barnsley if it were to have a large ‘vibrant’ Pakistani ‘community’. How about some Somalis with an admixture of Kosovans for good measure? Who knows what the future could bring: a sprinkle of Libyans and Tunisians perhaps? Barnsley folk however, are I daresay all too aware of the ‘vibrancy’ of nearby towns and cities such as Dewsbury, Bradford and Sheffield, and would rather cleave to the pleasantly non-vibrant social milieu of England in its pre-‘enrichment’ years. The Milibands of this world however, will never deviate from the view that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’ and that the English are essentially a vile bunch of ‘racists’. Don’t vote Labour, Conservative or Liberal Democrat. Look elsewhere for parties to support, which care about our country and our people, and do not seek to provide privileges to aggressive minority interlopers.

Shahid Malik loses Seat!

This is excellent news. The gloating Islamo-supremacist Shahid Malik has been ousted from his Dewsbury seat by Conservative Simon Reevell. Although the Tory share rose by a modest 3.3%, Malik's dropped by 8.4%. Much of this drop I suspect was the result of Khizar Iqbal's candidature. Evidently many of the towns Muslims opted to vote for this man instead. Disappointingly, the BNP vote slumped considerably here by 5.2% to 6%. Part of the reason for the decline must have been that many non-Muslim voters desperately wished to be rid of Malik, and who can blame them. Good riddance Shahid. The results in full are:

Dewsbury: BNP Target Seat Number Six

Dewsbury, as many people know, is the parliamentary constituency of the repellent expenses abusing Labour Islamic supremacist Shahid Malik. Like many other seats, Dewsbury has seen boundary changes since 2005 which leaves Malik in the position of defending a reduced notional majority owing to the loss of traditionally Labour Heckmondwike and the acquisition of the traditionally Tory Denby Dale and Kirkburton wards.

The BNP polled very strongly here in 2005 with David Exley taking 13.1% with 5,066 votes, hot on the heels of the Liberal Democrats who secured 14.6%. However, the UK Polling Report blog notes that one of the strongest BNP areas has been lost to Batley and Spen owing to boundary changes. Still, we can expect the BNP to do very well here, as Dewsbury is home to a large colony of Deobandi Muslims concentrated in the Saville Town and Ravensthorpe areas. Over the past year there have been a series of attacks on the local white population by Muslim youths which is symptomatic of the long-term social dislocation in the town caused by the refusal of the Islamic incomers to acculturate to English social norms. They have instead adhered to their imported fundamentalist Deobandi interpretation of Islam.

This time around Roger Roberts, a BNP councillor for Heckmondwike since 2006, is the party’s Dewsbury candidate. Mr Roberts joined the BNP in 2004 after 45 years in the Conservative Party. It is probable that the Conservatives will take the seat from Labour, but the BNP should be battling it out with the Liberal Democrats to take third place. If they can achieve this and take 15% of the vote, this would be a solid achievement. However, it is difficult to tell what impact the Clegg surge will have on the Liberal Democrat vote here. The BNP took many votes from Labour in 2005, and I suspect that this time around they’ll take a few more, but the Liberal Democrats could also take a good chunk of Labour’s support. This may make it harder for the BNP to take third place, but then again, the local specificities within the constituency (i.e. the well-publicised attacks on the local indigenous population by Muslim youths) may play in their favour.

Unlike in 2005, Dewsbury electors will also be able to vote for another nationalist party, although of the civic nationalist variety and far smaller and less serious than the BNP – the English Democrats. It is a great pity that they have also chosen to run in this seat, as they could shave a percentage point or two off of the BNP total. The full list of candidates standing in Dewsbury is: Adrian Cruden (Green); Michael Felse (English Democrats); Andrew Hutcheson (Liberal Democrat); Khizar Iqbal (Independent); Shahid Malik (Labour); Simon Reevell (Conservative) and Roger Roberts (BNP). Hopefully part of Labour’s Islamic bloc vote will also sheer off and attach itself to Khizar Iqbal. Whoever wins this Thursday, I shall relish seeing Malik turfed out of his seat. The Shame of Shahid Malik: an Appeal to the Voters of Dewsbury

I call upon all voters in the Dewsbury constituency to wake up to the unpalatable fact that in 2005 they returned a traitor to Westminster. If you are not a Muslim, do not vote for Shahid Malik at this year's General Election. Why not? Shahid damns himself readily enough with this explicit statement of his Islamist stance. This is at least the second time that he has done so, but unlike in his earlier speech posted on Youtube, in this latest clip you will find no trace of his former false coyness about his wish to see Parliament dominated by Islam.

If you are not a Muslim, he looks upon you as possessing lesser worth. He is more concerned about the well-being of his co-religionists in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Palestine than of his non-Muslim constituents. Don't believe me? Listen to the man himself in the following video. The Labour Party is finished. If you have been a member or supporter of the Labour Party, I call upon you to sever your links with this organisation and disown it completely, for it is now rotten to the core and possesses a deeply ingrained hatred of the English people and all that they hold dear.

Militant Islam in Dewsbury Part 2: Demography, Ideology and Insularity

Deobandi Islam came to Dewsbury in the 1950s with an influx of immigrants from Pakistan and India who came to work in the town’s woollen mills. They settled predominantly in Savile Town and Ravensthorpe [1]. This is a tale familiar to many of Britain’s northern towns and cities, and, as elsewhere, these exotic seeds later bloomed into so many fleurs du mal.

Dewsbury’s own deathly blooms included 7/7 bomber Mohammad Sidique Khan, who worshipped at the town’s Markazi mosque [2]; Waris Ali, a Ravensthorpe resident convicted at the age of 18 for planning to bomb BNP members [3], and Adnan Hussain, who threatened a woman by saying “he knew people who would “slit her throat”” simply because she refused to sell him cigarettes [4]. All products of the oft-termed “austere” interpretation of Islam favoured by the Deobandis and their religio-political offshoot: Tablighi Jamaat. Deobandi Islam is not on the fringes of Muslim life in the UK. Far from it. According to a Times report published in 2007, some 600 of Britain’s 1,350 mosques were run by followers of this branch of the faith [5].

Once they had founded their colonies, Dewsbury’s Muslim newcomers kept to themselves. Turning inwards, they cleaved to their ancestral Islamic beliefs and practices rather than assimilating to the host culture and population. Why assimilate to the latter, when they clearly believed that their own beliefs and ways were, in their perceptions, so self-evidently ‘superior’? Endogamy and chain migration maintained their biological cohesion; the mosque and the madrassah enforced their ideological unity; assaults and intimidation cowed the non-Muslim population and maintained their enclaves’ nascent territorial integrity. The enclaves expanded as the local English population sought to vacate properties in their immediate vicinity, thereby facilitating Muslim expansion. In this way did they build demographic, cultural and spiritual outposts of Gujarat and Pakistan. One instance amongst many. Heaton was once a pleasant place (so I’ve been told).

Tablighi Jamaat, which runs Dewsbury’s Markazi mosque, is the force behind plans to construct the London ‘mega-mosque’ and has been attributed as the radicalising influence which led Kaheel Ahmed (a doctor of Indian origin) to die in his attempted car bombing of Glasgow Airport in August 2007. Tablighi Jamaat’s European headquarters is found in Dewsbury, and its core beliefs go a long way to explaining the motivations underpinning the repeated attacks upon Dewsbury’s non-Muslim population. A Times article published in September 2007 stated:

“Tablighi Jamaat was founded in 1926, in India, by a Deobandi scholar, Muhammad Ilyas, who wanted to raise Islamic awareness among rural Muslims in south Asia. He promised them that by obeying Islamic laws and following the example of the Prophet Muhammad in their personal lives they would one day “dominate over non-believers” and become “masters of everything on this earth”.”

“Ishaq Patel, Tablighi Jamaat’s first amir (leader) in Britain, is said to have been on pilgrimage in Mecca when Ilyas’s successor gave him a long-term mission to win “the whole of Britain to Islam”.” [6]

Members of Dewsbury’s Muslim colony thus take in such views with their mothers’ milk, and they are reinforced day after day, week after week, year after year in the local mosques and the Markazi adjunct known as the Institute of Islamic Education. Tightly bound by these ideological ties which cultivate an attitude of supremacy and hatred towards the non-Muslims who live around them, is it any wonder that we see them attack the innocent? Those who would have you believe that these Deobandis are victims of racist discrimination, poverty and relative deprivation are either deliberately lying or deeply ignorant and self-deceiving. The violence at the heart of Dewsbury is cultivated and legitimated by Deobandi Islam, and it cannot be stopped by ploughing money and resources into these so-called ‘communities’ (i.e. colonies). Take away Islam and you remove the source of the violence.

Dewsbury is of course the constituency of disgraced Labour ex-Minister Shahid Malik (who has called for a Muslim PM in the UK (see video below)) and home to his Conservative parliamentary rival in the 2005 General Election ‘Baroness’ [sic] Sayeeda “I would fail the cricket test” Warsi. Hopefully, the voters will punish Malik at next year’s General Election. For want of a better means of expressing dissatisfaction it would be satisfying if the BNP vote were to rise, and martyr Malik will lose his seat.



The BNP have polled well in Dewsbury where they have stood in a succession of elections, taking a new high of 5,066 votes - 13.1% of those cast - in 2005 [7]. How any non-Muslim voters could cast their ballot for Malik again, I do not know. Such voters would do well to voice their dissatisfaction with the unwillingness of the local authorities and West Yorkshire Police to recognise, let alone confront the town’s Islamist problem, by delivering, for want of a better choice, a strong vote to the BNP in 2010. The Deobandi bullies will not be beaten unless someone stands up for their victims: the non-Muslim people of Dewsbury.

Militant Islam in Dewsbury Part 1: The Violent Assertion of Islamic Territorialism

A recent spate of attacks against non-Muslim residents in Dewsbury highlights the existence of no-go areas within the town: de facto emergent secessionist Muslim enclaves, into which others enter at their peril. This unpleasant reality conflicts with the vacuous assertions to the contrary by the West Yorkshire Police, who have also dismissed claims by victims of this recent violence that these assaults were clearly “racially motivated”. These denials bring to mind the refusal of West Yorkshire Police to attribute a racial component to “Asian” (code for Muslim) gang assaults upon white English pensioners in Bradford earlier this year.

The worst of the incidents that has taken place over the past few weeks involved a 14-year-old boy – Joseph Haigh - who was attacked by a gang of 10-15 Muslim youths who left him unconscious after inflicting a deep head wound with a brick, stabbing him in the hand with a screwdriver, loosening two of his front teeth and stealing his bike. Although stabbed in the hand, he could be said to be ‘lucky’, for his assailant was aiming at his face. The boy was later found unconscious by a passer-by. His father Jonathan said:

“It was a racist attack. They were calling him ‘white trash’ and white this, that and the other. This is why people are angry about what is happening in this country. If it had been an attack by whites on an Asian lad it would have been a definite race attack. When it’s the other way round they don’t want to know.” [1]

A 46-year old labourer - Robert Dyson - was set upon by a mob of Muslim men whilst returning home one Friday night in late October. In this unprovoked assault he was surrounded, punched in the face and then knocked to the ground where he suffered repeated kicks from his tormenters. A hospital visit was needed to repair the damage to his split lip and a gashed ear [2].

A week after the attack upon Mr Dyson, a young white man of 18 was set upon by a gang of about ten masked “Asian” (i.e. Muslim) youths who knocked him to the ground and began kicking him. They ran off when a middle-aged white couple interrupted the assault. The next afternoon (a Sunday) a number of white drivers had their cars stoned as they passed along Savile Road. Once again, the perpetrators were described as “Asian” (aka Muslim). One of those targeted – Andy Cutler aged 36 – stated:

“They were just targeting white drivers . . . As far as I’m concerned it’s racist and it needs to be reported.” [3]

This latest outbreak of attacks follows a similar wave which occurred during August, when three white boys (one aged 12 and two aged 14) “were attacked by Asians [Muslims] who demanded to know why they were walking through Savile Town.” Two weeks later a bus was attacked with stones. Windows were smashed and one of the passengers was injured. The wounded man emerged from the bus and attempted to chase away the young assailants and “was asked why he was going about shouting in ‘their area.’” [4]

From the attacks outlined above there are clear common denominators that indicate that young male Muslims within Dewsbury are using violent intimidation to mark out territory that they see as a nascent jurisdiction unto itself. That the victims of this Muslim violence (invariably described as “Asian” in the mainstream media, which is a grievous slur upon people of non-Muslim Asian extraction) are all white could lead one to mistakenly label these attacks as being “racist”. Strictly speaking of course, one should more accurately describe these awful crimes as being Islamist rather than racist, for although the young Muslim thugs happened to target white Britons (whom they particularly detest) in each of these incidents, they would I am sure be just as happy to attack any other kufr who pitched up on ‘their’ turf.

Indeed, in February 2008 violence flared between Dewsbury’s resident Pakistani Muslims and more-recently arrived immigrant Gypsies (usually mislabelled as “Hungarians”). They even went so far as to clash with an all-male influx of co-religionist Iraqi Kurds in 2007, in a display of atavistic rivalry over access to Pakistani females [5]. As any impartial reader can gather from this depressing list of unprovoked violent attacks, there is one component of Dewsbury’s population that is endowed with a spirit of hatred towards all other residents, and appears to be growing bolder in asserting its presence: Deobandi Islam. In the second part of this piece, I shall outline how this particularly unpleasant and violent species of Qur’anic literalism came to take root in the town, and what this betokens for politics in Dewsbury.
