EDL Dewsbury Demo Video Footage

The first of the videos illustrates the strength of the policing operation in Dewsbury today, whereas the second shows EDL member Tony Curtis delivering a speech outside of Dewsbury Town Hall, followed by Tracy Bird. The third shows protesters marching to their assembly point and provides a good impression of the numbers involved, which were modest and seemingly in keeping with the lower end of police estimates. For some seemingly inexplicable reason, a number of demonstrators attacked members of the police cordon. Such behaviour must be condemned, and thankfully does not appear to have led to any police casualties and only involved a minority of those in attendance. Information on the background to the demo and how it progressed can be accessed here.

  1. good job by police but this islamophobic demo has cost the tax payers £500,000 for policing less than 400 fascists so thats approximately £1,250 per fascist. Is this really worth it, in the time of this great financial crisis where people are daily becoming redundant. I hope the home secretary uses common sense and outlaws this fascist organisation. can you for one second imagine if this group would have been allowed has it been an anti Semitic organisation?

    1. Would you care to define the word 'fascist' for us please? I must apologise, but being a scholar of political science I find your usage of the term inaccurate and seemingly intended to stigmatise in the manner endorsed by Stalin to expedite and rationalise the physical elimination of Polish patriots in the Warsaw uprising by Nazi German forces in 1944. Am I correct in thinking that your definition of 'fascist' is of this kind?

    1. Dewsbury must buck the national trend when it comes to unemployment by ethnicity then. All surveys I've seen (including government data) have Pakistanis and Banglas trailing only Blacks when it comes to unemployability.

      NE Chap.

    5. Those that call for the EDL (A legal democratic single issue protest movement) to be banned, whilst screaming fascism at the same time, make the EDL look like physicists in comparison.

If you took these buzzwords away from them, they'd have little else to say.

    6. Well, there truly are some 'choice' comments here, with the three posted between 22:29 and 00:11 each displaying varying degrees of illiteracy. However, the comment left at 00:11 deserves a triple prize for illiteracy, vulgarity and aggressiveness. Come to think of it, I don't have a clue what it is meant to mean. Whoever 'wrote' it is certainly not English, but what they are, I cannot tell. In fact, I'm not even sure that they are fully human; the jumble of gibberish could have been randomly generated by a computer afflicted with a particularly bad virus.

  3. This demo has meant a loss of income for shopkeepers and Market traders as people like myself have stayed at home rather than get caught up in this. As a white person I am truly embarrassed by this bunch of Nazis, I wish I was brave enough to have turned up and told them what I think of their views.

    1. Exactly. I'm a 35yr old Pakistani and had hoped to hang out at the mall then maybe take in a movie. These nazis are playing havoc with my love life.

    2. If our politicians acknowledged and dealt with the issues that concern the protesters, then there would be no need for such demonstrations. Nobody wishes shopkeepers and market traders to suffer, particularly during these hard times, so it is my hope, once a new, credible and moderate political party is launched in the near future, that there will no longer be any reason for such demonstrations to take place.

Funny you should say that. I'd rather have them in this country then self-loathing, middle-class, hypocritical white lefty parasites who have never done a days work in their life.

  5. why did the police stop people joining the congregation in front of the town hall ? suppose health and safety was the real reason and not so it looks better on the bbc if there are fewer numbers.two tier society again !

    1. You don't represent anything that I recognize as England, which is something I have campaign in support of for years, including middle-class spoilt brat pack's rights over tuition fees.

I know it may not be your first language, but do try and learn to spell 'bigot' if you intend to abuse it for bigoted purposes.

  8. firstly i would like to thank my fellow british asians from turning up and giving these idiots the attention they were after. Because if you did and the police had to manage another group of idiots it would have meant more money out of the police budget and possibly less to spend when it comes to other policing issues. secondly all i can say about the edl is that it is just a handfull of unemployed idiots that have nothing better to do than cause trouble, a bit like a nursery child without toys who starts acting stupid to get attention because they are bored. i really do feel sad for you guys as the benefits system is now under review and that means you are going to get even more upset with less money in your pocket!

  9. They're not Nazis, they don't have enough of a political nous to get that far. They're not fascists. They're just knobheads, and it's absolutely their right to parade their knobbishness through our town, just as much as it's my right to call them knobheads. If they could do it in such a way that meant that I hadn't been blocked from getting to the Post Office, though, then I'd have been much happier. That's just not on.

"For some seemingly inexplicable reason, a number of demonstrators attacked members of the police cordon." Yeah, it's weird how ex-football hooligans enjoy starting fights, isn't it? It's almost like they were trying to provoke a violent clash, what with all their hateful rhetoric and perceived fear of being taken over (hate to break it to them, but white people are still in the majority here, I've seen the census data, and it's okay, they haven't installed Sharia law on me just yet, but then my area of Dewsbury is still white and Catholic, and they've been pretty heavy on me not using contraception whilst touching small boys, oh no, wait, they haven't).

People are people, whether they're skinhead violent knobheads who just need an excuse for a tussle (possibly so that they can touch another man without shame), or afore-mentioned Muslims who burn poppies in Wooten Bassett to get a reaction. There's decent people who live pretty similar lives no matter their religion, philosophy or culture, and then there's knobheads who like to cause a ruckus and make my day more complicated. Multi-culturalism so far just means that I get more yummy things to eat and, sometimes, the ice cream vans in these parts play Bollywood-esque jingles, which never fails to cheer me up.

Relax everybody, the world revolves on. I'm off now to have some beans on toast.*

*Beans are from Afghanistan, originally, and tomatoes are from South America, bread is from somewhere in the fertile crescent of the middle east and the cheese is purportedly from Cheddar. It's political correctness gone mad, I tells ya.

  11. Mention the EDL and the left wing crazies and bigots come out of the woodwork.

Mildly amusing to read their hate filled illiterate offerings and gutter language as they struggle to criticise the EDL but sometimes one is tempted to ask, hey guys, have you never heard of irony?
